Simone Palfreyman is the Principal of Palfreyman Chartered Accountants and heads our taxation and services team. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), and was awarded first place in multiple University subjects. Simone's consistent academic success saw her complete the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Professional Year programme in the top 5% of Australian Candidates for two of three technical modules. This was later followed by being awarded a "Fellow" status with Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand.
Simone has recently been announced as the leading female accountant in Australia by winning the prestigious Women in Finance "Accountant of the Year" award for 2019. Simone was also the "Overall Excellence Award" winner in the NSW SMSF & Accounting Award, and a winner in the "Partner of the Year" and "Regional Professional of the Year" categories. Simone is honoured to be the Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards "Business Woman of the Year" recipient and the Cessnock Customer Service Awards Runner Up "Business Owner of the Year".
Simone was named a finalist in the 2019 Australian Accounting Awards in the "Partner of the Year (Boutique Firm)", "Public Accountant of the Year" and "Thought Leader of the Year" categories. Simone was also a finalist in the "Principal of the Year" and "Thought Leader of the Year" categories in the Women in Finance Awards. In the 2019 Cessnock Customer Service Awards, Simone was a very highly regarded nominee.
In 2018, Simone was a finalist in the nation-wide Women in Finance "Principal of the Year", "Regional Professional of the Year", "Thought Leader of the Year" and "Innovator of the Year" Awards, as well as the Australian Accounting Awards "Partner of the Year (Boutique Firm)" and "Thought Leader of the Year" categories. In 2017, Simone was also named a finalist in the nation-wide Women in Finance "Accountant of the Year" awards which recognises the leading female professionals in the finance sector.
In terms of experience, Simone has worked for 30 years in the accounting sector. Prior to establishing her own practice in 1996, she worked for large accounting firms including Touche Ross, KPMG and Ernst and Young. Simone has also shared her understanding of Taxation and Accounting through working with the University of Newcastle as a tutor and lecturer for over 10 years. Recently, Simone was selected by Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand as a professional mentor to help shape the next generation of young Chartered Accountants.
Simone's knowledge and experience can always be recognised in her professional work, but shines most strongly when coupled with her compassionate work ethic that encourages her involvement in her local community. Simone is currently the secretary for the Awaba Oval Committee, and was Treasurer for Quorrobolong Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade for nearly 20 years. In the past, Simone has also acted as Treasurer for Toronto Pony Club, Zone 24 Pony Club and the NSW Andalusion Horse Association, President for Toronto Pony Club and Secretary for Toronto Pony Club. Simone's passion for volunteering was recognised by the Pony Club Association of New South Wales, who awarded her the 2018 "Volunteer of the Year" award.
Outside of work, Simone is actively involved in the horse industry. Though Simone now focuses on Show Riding and Dressage, she has previously had great success showing and breeding Andalusians. Some of Simone's highlights include her multiple Sydney Royal competitions and PHAA National Highpoint wins.
